Understanding PS5 NAT Types

PlayStation 5 uses three NAT type classifications

Type 1 - Open

Direct internet connection without router

  • Best possible connection
  • No restrictions
  • Can connect to all players
  • Host all game types

Type 2 - Moderate

Connected through router with proper port forwarding

  • Good for most games
  • Can connect to Type 1 & 2
  • May have minor restrictions

Type 3 - Strict

How to Fix PS5 NAT Type

Check Your Current NAT Type

  1. 1Go to Settings on your PS5
  2. 2Select System > Console Information
  3. 3Look for NAT Type in the list
  4. 4Note your current NAT type (1, 2, or 3)

Enable UPnP on Your Router

  1. 1Access your router admin panel (usually 192.168.1.1)
  2. 2Find UPnP settings (often under Advanced)

  4. 4Save and restart your router

Port Forward for PS5

  1. 1Find your PS5 IP address in Network Settings

Set Static IP for PS5
